Bob’s Business is incredibly lucky to have four different students working at Bob’s Business over the month of August where they get a chance to gain work experience in the Cyber Security Field. Abigail Heron, who was interested in the design and creative aspects, walks us through her experience.
Even though I’m not always the most confident person in the room, I would just like to say a massive thank you to the entire team of Bob’s Business for inviting me to have the opportunity to experience what it would be like to work as a team within their company.
Truthfully, I did not know what to expect as I had only found out about team and what they had to offer. However, as I am taking computer science at school I was hopeful I could apply some knowledge I gained from the lessons.
When I had arrived, I was greeted by a member of the team who appeared calm and relaxed which calmed my nerves down. He then showed me to the office where friendly faces welcomed me on arrival. The team, once I got used to my surroundings, were very kind and reassuring and provided that boost of encouragement I needed to ask questions.
I then realised that this team was not always about working in a stressful office, team members busily going about their daily tasks independently, I realised that this group of workers actually need each other to complete daily tasks. The strong relationship of each member can inflict the mood of the room; gladly everyone seemed happy and cheerful at work.
In addition, I met the 3 members of the “creative team” who relied upon their graphic and visual attributes to create things like posters, animations and pictures for social media. I was happy to help this team as I am taking Graphic Design in school. I helped make some “world day” posters which were made using adobe illustrator and published online. They all were commenting on my pictures which provided me with the confidence I need. I was also helping a member of the team to make calendars too.
Throughout the week, I was appointed the tasks of helping out with clients, manual testing and creating two new characters; Audrey and a character that is me! I found all this really interesting and fun. It gave me insight to what there is to do within a team.
Though, most of my time I was working independently, I just want to thank the team and Melanie once again for providing me the chance to experience what it is like to work within an Information Security Business.
It will be sad to leave Bob’s Business as the experience was very enjoyable, but maybe in the future the team will be seeing me again as I hear they do apprenticeships!
